Merton) MIT 특훈교수 일시: 10월 23일 수요일 오전 9시 부터 장소: 성균관대학교 (서울캠퍼스) 국제관 9B217호 강연제목: Observations on Financial and Technological Innovation “FinTech” Opportunities and Challenges 진행: 류두진 교수 (성균관대 경제학과 교수 및 한국금융학회 이사) *등록비는 전액 무료로 진행됩니다. 주차공간이 협소하오니 가급적 대중교통 이용 부탁드립니다. 성균관대학교와 한국금융학회는 노벨경제학상 수상자인 로버트 머튼(Robert C. Merton) MIT 슬론(Sloan) 경영대학원 특훈교수의 특강을 공동으로 주최한다. 머튼 교수는 성균관대학교에서 Fintech와 첨단금융산업의 미래 (Observations on Financial and Technological Innovation “FinTech” Opportunities and Challenges)를 주제로 특강을 진행할 예정이다. 머튼 교수는 금융분야에서 가장 유명한 모형인 블랙-숄즈-머튼 옵션가격결정모형(Black-Scholes-Merton option pricing model)의 창시자이며, 이 모형을 개발한 공로를 인정받아 50대 초반의 나이에 노벨경제학상을 수상하였다. 머튼 교수의 지도교수는 미국인 최초로 노벨경제학상을 수상한 전설적인 경제학자인 폴 새뮤얼슨(Paul Samuelson)이다. 스승과 제자가 모두 경제학사에 한 획을 그은 셈이다. 머튼 교수는 현재 세계적인 투자자문사인 Dimensional Fund Advisors의 고문으로 활동하면서 학계와 현업 양쪽에서 모두 왕성한 활동과 기여를 하고 있다. 첨단 금융분야 연구의 방향을 알고자 하는 학자와 연구자는 물론, 현업에서 금융실무를 담당하는 시장전문가 모두에게 유익한 강연이 될것으로 기대된다.

- 아래와 같이 UCLA 주정섭 교수님의 특강이 진행됩니다. 많은 관심과 참여 부탁드립니다. == 일시: 10월 7일 (월) 15:00 ~ 16:00 장소: 국제관 9B313호 강연자: Professor 주정석 교수 (UCLA) 주제: Detecting Social Events and Political Beliefs from Social Media Images Abstract: Advanced machine learning and scalable data analytic methods have been increasingly adopted by social science researchers in the recent literature. While the majority of existing approaches in computational social science rely on numeric, network or text data, recent studies have also demonstrated that computer vision can be applied to automatically analyze visual content data in social and mass media and facilitate quantitative investigations in many areas. Such methods dramatically enlarge the scale and scope of data analysis and open up new opportunities to social science researchers. In this talk, I will discuss recent developments of computational approaches to these research questions using three topics: (1) detecting social movements and measuring protester and state violence in protest events; (2) predicting political ideology from Facebook photographs posted by legislators; and (3) measuring dataset bias and developing a new face dataset with a balanced race composition. These studies demonstrate the utility of computer vision and show how it can relate to the broad areas in social sciences. Bio: Jungseock Joo is an assistant professor in Communication and an affiliated assistant professor in Statistics at University of California, Los Angeles. His research primarily focuses on understanding multimodal human communication with computer vision and machine learning based methods. In particular, his research employs various types of large scale multimodal media data such as TV news or online social media and examines how multimodal cues in these domains relate to public opinions and real world events. His research has been supported by National Science Foundation, Hellman Foundation, and UCLA Faculty Career Development Award. He received Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA, M.S. in Computer Science from Columbia University, and B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Seoul National University. He was a research scientist at Facebook prior to joining UCLA in 2016.
